This Winter/Spring, we're gearing up and mobilizing towards the NH Legislature. After spending months working to get some progressive leaders elected, we have some very exciting bills being introduced this spring that will be voted on!
Throughout the Legislative Session, we'll organize around public education, reproductive & gender equity, climate change, cannabis legalization, and voting rights. Through testifying at bill hearings, supporting bills and calling our reps, we plan to pass policies that will tangibly improve the lives of those left behind by our current system.
OUR ISSUE PRIORITIES
Last year, NH passed a ban on any discussions deemed “divisive” (topics like race & gender have been referenced) in public schools. Prohibiting honest and critical discussion on these topics will only censor what students can learn in class. We're supporting bills that aim to overturn this ban on "divisive" topics and end censorship in NH schools.
There have been numerous attacks on our reproductive health over the past year, including the first abortion ban in our state's history. While there have been mutual aid efforts on the ground to help fill in the gaps, we need to fight to provide free and easy access to abortions and all reproductive healthcare.
We know that it will take the largest mobilization this country has ever seen to combat the climate crisis at the scale we need. But this year, there's some exciting bills that would jumpstart our state on the path to building a livable future that we think could pass.
For decades, NH has used laws criminalizing cannabis despite the proven benefits it can provide to users. Even as states around us begin to reap the benefits of legalized cannabis, NH continues to fall behind. Legalizing the possession, use and sale of recreational cannabis is not only and opportunity to end a long-lasting injustice, but to also fund our communities.
Under a conservative-led government, we can anticipate that there will be several attempts to strip voting rights from Granite Staters throughout this legislative season. We believe that everybody that lives in this state deserves the right to vote in our elections, so we're working stop any bills that aim disenfranchise voters.
